An ordinary man working to put the “extra” in front.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, December of 1991, T0ne M is an aspiring visual and musical superhero on a mission to be his father’s favorite emcee. Since birth, T0ne was fed hip hop and R&B as he was brought up around the musical talents of his mother, gospel recording sensation Carmen Miller, and his uncle, producer and emcee Rugby as well as influenced by artists such as Common and Joe Thomas. At the age of 7 he wrote his first 16 bar verse and continued to write throughout his life although it wasn’t until he was 18 that he began to peruse music seriously. Attending college in Brooklyn, New York, T0ne attempted to make a name for himself however was stumped when posed with the question, “Who are you?” He became hellbent on finding his true voice and sharing it though his music.
T0ne recorded, mixed, and mastered his first LP, Konshu’s Odyssey, despite his lack of experience. An independent project, cryptic in it’s tale of a college sophomore struggling with emotional and spiritual turmoil in search of hope, Konshu’s Odyssy was a statement to himself; that he would make a way to create and develop his music by any means, with or without support of others. Regardless, he still hadn’t found his true voice.
Since then T0ne has begun to grow into the artist he’s always strove to be. He’s developed his flow into a smooth combination of blunt yet clever lyricism with a soulful honesty thought lost in modern rap music. His songs are easy to listen to, self-critical analysis’s of a young man beyond his years.
Currently, T0ne M is preparing to graduate Pratt Institute with a bachelor’s in communication design (illustration emphasis) while also doing freelance illustration. He’s become a student member of Society of Illustrators and recently joined BiGCiTYBiGCiTY Inc®, a conglomerate of individual businesses and artists. He is also finishing up his next LP, a hip-hop album of good, soul music entitled Sketchbook 3 which is set to drop late summer 2013. He released the first single, “Insecurities” (produced by Kelly Portis of Oakland, CA) in April to set the tone of the project.
